Alright everyone, it’s time to get real about soap.
I’m officially going local when it comes to soap. No more of that mass produced, name brand, stuff for me.
We all use soap every day (at least hopefully you do) but have you ever questioned what’s actually in it?
I believe in doing my own research. I like to take it upon myself to make sure I’m an educated consumer because seriously, who trusts the government to regulate this stuff properly? Not me! So I started doing the research about soap and I got pretty grossed out.
Lets take Dove soap for example, a well-known brand, seems pretty safe and clean. NOPE. Did you know that Dove puts animal fat in their soap? Often from cows, pigs, or euthanized dogs and cats from shelters. GROSS!!
Not only is that super gross and disgusting, but the ingredients in your every day big brand soaps don’t benefit your skin. I have to carry a small lotion container in my purse because I absolutely cannot stand it when I’m out and use the restroom, wash my hands, and then my hands are SO dry. I can’t stand that feeling. You know, when you’re hands are all dry and stiff feeling after washing your hands with gross chemical filled soap.
I like to feel moisturized. That gross dry feeling after using mass produced soap is from the unnatural chemicals that literally have no benefit to your skin .They dry your skin out.
Not only that, but the drying ingredients of your every day soap can cause acne. So please, do not use mass produced soap from huge corporations.
So why are big companies using ingredients that don’t benefit us: They’re cheaper.
I’m not into that. I would rather support a local, made in USA business, nourish my skin with revitalizing, cleansing, natural ingredients. I’ve decided to switch from mass produced soap to all natural locally made soap.
Thats how I found Iron Lion Soap, and I’m so glad I did. (See the ILS logo below).
Iron Lion Soap is handmade by a father and son duo about forty five minutes north of where I live, in Irvine California. I don’t even have to drive up and pick it up because ILS is willing to ship it right to me! Perfect 🙂
Do you know what’s in your soap? I do, because I emailed Iron Lion soap to find out exactly what’s in it, and I immediately received a response from Avi Rubin.
Me: What are some of the main ingredients in your soaps?
–Tea Tree Oil Tea Tree is known for its amazing anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. Proven to have antifungal properties, loaded with antioxidants and has a ton of various vitamins. Not to mention a moisturizer like no other. –Eucalyptus Oil Know for being an antispasmodic and anti inflammatory this oil is known for being the original first aid. It’s great for cleaning the skin and soothing muscles. –Peppermint Oil Peppermint oil is known as an antiviral agent, this stuff keeps the infections away. Not only that but, it does a wonderful job nourishing the skin and keeping oils at bay. –Sunflower Oil Rich in nutrients and antioxidants, tons of protein help rebuild the skin and tissue.
Tea tree and peppermint oils for a refreshing clean. This bar is powerful against dirt, grime, and fungus.
I’m pretty much obsessed. Have I mentioned how amazing natural soap smells? The smell of the raw ingredients fill up my bathroom. My house seriously smells better with these soaps around.
I even got a chance to ask Avi about manufacturing soap in the USA:
Me: Why do you manufacture in the USA?
Avi: Not only is it important that ILS manufactures in the USA, but it is obligatory. Our single source soaps are hand crafted to smell great, and keep you clean. We encourage a healthy mind and body starting with your skin and feel the need to be connected to our customers.
Me: Do you think it would be easier or harder to outsource?
Avi: If Iron Lion Soap was to outsource we would not have control of each batch from the raw ingredients to the hand stamped box. We hold ourselves to a very high standard and do things our way, we refuse to stray from our vision.
Me: Why should people buy local?
Avi: We think its important for people to buy local for two simple reasons. 1. You are supporting those around you and have a direct connection with the product. 2. What you see is what you get.
I’ve decided to only buy locally made soap. Not only is this my way to support local/made in USA businesses, but now I know exactly what I’m rubbing on my body. I can actually feel clean when I use ISL soap, and isn’t that the whole point??
Feel free to check out ISL’s website, or contact them if you have any other questions about their soap and the benefits of using natural, locally produced soap:
