I work from home most days, and I won’t lie: when I work at home I’m totally chillin in yoga pants and a sweater. I like to be comfortable. Plus, most days all I do is work and work out. So yoga clothes are perfect. However, there are definitely days that I need to be a big girl and dress the part if you know what I mean.
My other business, Volkalize.com, is all about politics and current events, so sometimes news stations or radio shows will ask me to come in and talk about the issues that are trending online.
First of all, it’s so much fun! I love discussing and debating political issues. I think it’s super important for us to be informed. We live in a free country, and sorry to get all serious on ya’ll, but freedom comes with the responsibility to maintain it. We have to keep our country free and keep working to make it a great place to live. Otherwise, we’re just taking our freedom for granted.
Sorry, end rant.
So on the days I get to dress up and look professional, there’s one brand I always turn to: Helmut Lang.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I’m all about quality, not quantity. It’s part of the reason I love products made in the USA, the quality is much higher than imports. Buy something from China for 3 dollars, you get what you pay for: crap.
When you buy American, you’re paying for quality, aka your stuff lasts longer and you get more use out of it! SCORE.
Helmut Lang is high quality stuff. I love their blazers, leggings, and basic tanks. I literally wear them all the time. For conferences, news shows, meetings, anything!
The blazer is unfortunately no longer available in this color, but they have it in black! Annndd the best news: Its on SALE!
Helmut Lang makes seriously the most rad blazers. They always add some cool detail like leather trimming or geometric shapes. See other Helmut Lang Blazers HERE.
The bag, which I’m always carrying if you haven’t noticed because it’s seriously so useful, is Leni Penn.
[Me having a little fun taking an in studio selfie 🙂 ]
Helmut Lang isn’t just great for on camera, I wear their stuff to meetings all the time.
Yesterday I had a meeting with a friend about her rad jewelry line, it was a bit more casual but I still wanted to look professional. Again, Helmut Lang head to toe: I wore the Black Wash Denim and Morse Draped White Shirt.
I personally like to roll the sleeves up.
If you’re wondering where this cute little clutch is from, it’s by Tree Fairfax and I’m seriously obsessed. I put my little work notebook in it that I take to all of my meetings. It’s the perfect size. It holds my notebook, car key, pen, Burt’s Bees lip balm, and my phone. All my necessities! Everything by Tree Fairfax is one of a kind and handmade.

Side note: Dressing business casual does not mean you have to dress boring.
It’s okay to add some edgy pieces to your biz cas look. Just don’t go over the top. You will still look professional I promise, and it will give you a little something extra for people to notice. Add some cool accessories, dark lips, or an awesome bag.
What are some of your favorite business casual looks? Tweet them to me: @JordanBosstick.
