Professional Headshot Outfits as a Boss B*tch

There’s honestly a lot to consider when putting together an outfit for professional headshots. You’ll want to consider at the very least things like the field you’re working in, what looks best in photos, and what looks best on you.

For example, if you work in a very business-y field, you may want to use a minimalist color palette (think neutrals, like a white shirt) that would fit the “dress code” of the industry. On the other hand, if you work in a creative industry, you can wear more brightly colored clothing. Additionally, certain colors work best with certain skin tones, so you’ll want to make sure you consider what looks best on YOU before you pick anything out.

When it comes to what looks best in photos, be sure to consider the lighting. You’ll also want solid colors to wear in your headshots, as patterns can lead to a “moiré” effect where the pattern blends together. Not the vibe!

Make sure you think about what level of dress you want to be wearing in your photos too a good rule of thumb is to dress like your boss. For the most part, you’re going to want to go for a business formal workwear look, rather than a business casual one.

Next, think about accessories! Going light on accessories is preferable, but it’s kind of up to you how light you go. As for glasses, you’ll want to wear them if you normally wear glasses so that you remain recognizable. Just be aware that thick frames can cause more glare, so try to wear a pair with thin frames and anti-reflective coating. If you don’t always wear your glasses, skip them.

Wear newer, fitted clothing if you can, as new clothing looks sharper and more intensely colored, giving your photos greater contrast. Older, baggy clothing can easily look frumpy when caught at the wrong angle. Lastly, make sure to bring multiple outfits you feel confident in so that you can swap looks if your first look is not hitting the mark.
